Wednesday 1 June 2016
SIMPSON are delighted to have completed the first phase of the £1.8million redevelopment at Rievaulx Abbey.
SIMPSON have worked with English Heritage on the creation of a new tearoom, visitor centre and improved museum facilities.
These new facilities now allow unseen artefacts to go on display, including exhibits of elaborate medieval stone carvings, chess pieces and gold coins.
Visitors to this site will now be able to get a greater sense of what this Abbey used to be in its heyday.
Liz Page, historic properties director for English Heritage in the North, said ” The new museum, cafe and visitor centre certainly achieves the new visitor experience and we are proud to open the doors to one of our most prestigious sites . The team involved have worked hard and the elegant museum, which is now an excellent space, tells a better story, while being able to showcase previously unseen artefacts.”
