SIMPSON has completed the delivery of the revitalisation of this Grade II listed former Terry’s Confectionary site in York for Springfield Healthcare.
The project has seen the factory’s structure restored with 82 new care suites and 8 luxury apartments being created over two floors, providing aspirational quality accommodation. At roof level an additional storey of accommodation has been created with a new roof terrace for the residents to enjoy stunning views across York.
The centrepiece for the new development has been the restored glass atrium, which features and internal market square, with cafes, street lighting, outdoor dining space, shops, pub and other facilities.
In addition, SIMPSON undertook the restoration of the ornate plaster repair work to the listed ceilings, incorporating running new mouldings on site. To maintain the ornate ceilings, existing cornice has been repaired throughout the whole building and extensive strengthening works were carried out by incorporating a lattice beam system into the new sfs structure.
Within the atrium SIMPSON removed and replaced the existing wood floor in order to incorporate mechanical and electrical services to heat and light the space. A steel mezzanine with a concrete deck was constructed to provide an additional area at first floor level. Within this new area there is now a bistro dining area along with an activity area and welfare facilities.
Our bespoke Joinery Workshop manufactured all the decorative shopfronts, the new reception desk, and the bistro servery, as well undertaking extensive replacement and refurbishment works to the existing ornate wall panelling, skirting, architraves, and doors; including the requirement for French polishing.
We are currently onsite constructing an 80 bed Care Home and 22 bed Care Suite. This Design and Build commenced 17th June 2019 and is due to complete in May 2021.
