Building sustainable business means looking at how we impact on the environment and our communities.

The evidence of this being our self-funded development of our head office at Chessingham Park, Dunnington, York where we included the following environmental initiatives.

• Biomass boiler using waste wood from joiners shop (previously destined for land fill)
• Photo Voltaic layer to run our air conditioning systems
• Shading for windows (brise soleil)
• Grey water for toilets pumped from onsite underground rain water storage tanks
• Solar panels for heating domestic hot water
• Re-use of salvaged material & finishes
• Sustainable underground drainage systems

Work involved major extension and alteration work to three existing business units, stripping the buildings back to their steel frames and transforming them into a mix of B1 business units and B8 industrial units. SIMPSON now occupies the largest of these three buildings. Five B1 business units are also now housed in the fourth, new building.

SIMPSON achieved a BREEAM ‘very good’ rating for their head office by incorporating the above principles.
