SIMPSON are delighted to be part of the project team commissioned to deliver the exciting Phase 1B project at Durham Cathedral.
This exciting project will be the second Phase SIMPSON has carried out following the completion of the entrance foyer and Cathedral shop in 2013.
The Open Treasure project will transform the Monks’ Dormitory into an accessible, visitor friendly exhibition space, whilst retaining and enhancing its functionality as a working library.
Works to be carried out include:
- Refurbishment of the existing Monks Dormitory, Great kitchen and Covey to create a new walkway gallery viewing space for members of the public
- Construction of a new access gallery link, with air conditioned exhibition space
- Extensive conservation stonework repairs and re-pointing to the external facades of the building
- Extensive conservation treatments to the timber roof structure of the Monks Dormitory
